a delicate balance
recovery’s industrial art piece no. 004 is a study in balance. a balance in proportion, in materials, and in styles.
The industrial cast iron base has been repurposed from an early 20th CENTURY cream separator. it is brush-sanded down to bare metal, heated with a blowtorch, and meticulously hand rubbed with linseed oil. warming the metal opens its pores and allows the oil to seep deeply into the pits and crevices of the iron. the oil drys for a period of one month before a combination of waxes are applied.
the “anvil stand” design of the base, with it’s SLIGHT lean, supple curves and flared legs, is paired with a reclaimed slab of black walnut. the live edges are left untouched while the top and sides are skillfully milled and smoothed. teak oil is then applied, elevating the natural beauty of the walnut. the completed piece is finely buffed to a high, yet supple sheen, and the resulting finish is ABSOLUTEly stunning. the earthly hues of the richly colored walnut become perfectly balanced with the radiated glow of the base.
NO. 004 is intended to be displayed in a residential space offering natural or industrial lighting.
